Oddly enough I have wanted to do this video for a long time and only just got around to finishing it. I had a lot of fun recording the audio, though my upstairs neighbor probably thinks I’m insane. I heard her shut her window right when I was getting really into it. Though, I’m pretty sure most people use sound effects when they describe sandpipers running back and forth across the beach. Other people tell stories with sound effects, right? Guys?

Political Lunch is my new favorite way to keep up with election day politics. Hosted by Will Coghlan and Rob Millis, Political Lunch “is a lunchtime serving of choice cuts from the best political news sources online.” Catching up on politics is pretty time consuming, especially in an election race atmosphere. These gents do a terrific job of filtering out the noise to bring only the most pertinent information to their show, updated almost daily, packaged in an easy to swallow 3-5 minute video. Straight to the point, this simple production brings a level of intimacy to the daily news that is impossible with large, flashy TV networks, and I appreciate what Mr. Coghlan and Mr. Millis have put together with Political Lunch! Cheers! Check out the latest syndicated episode below.

NPR Science Friday, hosted by Ira Flatow, highlights the 2007 Ig Nobel Awards in this fantastic podcast.
Here is a direct link, or browse to it on Science Friday’s page. The Ig Nobel awards, organized by the Annals of Improbable Research (AIR), are presented each year at a ceremony in Harvard University’s Sanders Theater as a parody of the genuine Nobel awards. My favorite this year is probably the Linguistics Prize, given to a few folks from Barcelona for “Showing that Rats sometimes cannot tell the difference between a person speaking Japanese backwards and a person speaking Dutch backwards.” Before you pull out the BS card, I did a little web search and found that that study was published in the Journal of Experimental Psychology: Animal Behavior Processes. A very close second favorite was the Aviation prize for the study that showed “Viagra aids jet lag recovery in hamsters,” also legitimate. Give the episode a listen for a good chuckle, really good stuff!

I wrote this as part of an application to San Francisco area startup. I didn’t get the job, but the paper fits well into a blog post, with a few modifications. Where do you see the future of media?
The future of media lies in aggregation, not traditional distribution. Google knows it, Apple knows it (think iPod, iPhone, AppleTV), Amazon knows it, and a whole list of others see a future of media aggregation.

A quick perusal of my friends shared photos on Facebook got me thinking. Our generation could be haunted by a pervasive online presence of our teen/20-something selves, even when we have moved on and left our beer pong playing days back at Iota Eta Pi.

I have been experimenting with Ooyala, which, in their own words, “is a technology-driven company dedicated to delivering an interactive, high-quality video experience. The company is also developing content management systems and video ad serving technologies.” Founded by a few ex-Googlers, information on exactly what Ooyala is getting their hands into is bit scarce, but they do appear to have a few killer features that all video podcasters should pay attention to, as well as the possibility of some very exciting, and far reaching, future functionality. Here are a few comments on their video management software, Backlot. Continue Reading »

A quick message from your friendly Jamaican raft guide. Footage taken from a friends sailing trip down to the island a few years back. Sorry for the unpolished cut, I wanted to get this out tonight as I figure it is a pertinent message to keep in our minds tomorrow.

This is a big one here folks, looks like we even beat Engadget to the punch. With the recent announcement that the new iPod nano will have video playback, Apple has revealed secret plans for a killer accessory; Stereoscopic iPod nano Glasses! Thats right, luscious 3D imagery using two iPod nanos precariously lashed to your forehead! No doubt you will be the envy of your commute when you strap these bad boys on and start watching The Comedy Central Roast of Flava Flav . . . in 3D!! Check out the leaked photos of Apples product testing below. Totally rad . . . and we got our hands on a pair. Unfortunately all we are allowed to say about them is that the pictures below are most likely the best representation of the reaction you will probably have whenever Apple possibly announces this mighty product.
